If parties disagree with a judgment on appeal, it is in certain cases possible to lodge an appeal in cassation with the Supreme Court of the Netherlands.

However, the Supreme Court does not reassess the facts; it only examines whether the law has been applied correctly and whether the judgment is sufficiently reasoned. A ruling can only be set aside on those grounds. New facts or arguments cannot be introduced at the cassation stage; complaints must be based on what was previously submitted in the proceedings. This means that not every case is suitable for submission to the Supreme Court.
